Bike Beyond Tours
Everyone deserves an adventure at least once in their lives.
Everyone deserves an adventure. A great sense of personal achievement,
humility, pride, and a hunger for more are the hall marks of a well
planned, executed, and supported adventure.

On tour, Bike Beyond have had the pleasure of supporting Australian
mountain bike champions, novice mountain bikers, and cyclists new to
riding and touring. The kind of support they need differs - the fact that
they need it doesn’t.
Public Tour Testimonial
“ The logistics, support, encouragement, organisation - what ever you need is there when you need it: food, drinks, skills, support, bike fix. You don’t ask, they just know. The scenery and experience went beyond my expectations. Bike Beyond go beyond in every way. Nothing left to chance. Absolute professionals.”
(D. d’Avigdor Sept 09).”
Bike Beyond are committed to:

ü
adventure
ü
bikes
ü
combining our skills with your skills to support your riding adventure
ü
the environment: it’s difficult to have an adventure without it.

These commitments underpin our tour philosophy - we take small groups of people to remote locations and offer mountain bike tours, and rail trail tours. Tour venues include: rural and alpine Victoria, South Australia, Tasmania, Malaysian Borneo.

Types of Tour

An off road tour is not a mountain bike tour; an expedition isn’t a tour, the in’s and out’s of each type of tour are noted below.
While it’s not necessarily a natural progression to go from one to the other, it can be. Be warned - adventure is contagious!

Rail Trail tour - a tour on a disused rail way that has been developed for cyclists. There is no traffic, gradients are gentle, and there is regular access to amenities and supplies. Rail Trails are a great way to relax, ride, introduce yourself to longer distance rides, and begin to taste the thrill of riding adventures and the confidence that good support generates.

Off road tour - vehicle support is available 100%. This means that riding will be on farm/forestry/ fire tracks/4WD tracks/
unsealed roads. Some mountain bike skills will make your journey easier and more enjoyable, but vehicle support will never be far away. This has its advantages, and disadvantages: accessible roads mean other vehicle traffic can use the roads/route.

Mountain bike tour - vehicle support is not available 100% of the time, and riders will be riding without vehicle back up for
extended periods of time. This may involve riding on single track, private land and/or tracks that cannot be accessed easily by
4WD vehicles. Riding guides provide the main support for mountain bike tours - navigation, emergency and mechanical back
up, water supplies, communications, and skill development. Economies of scale don’t always fit with the environment we live in; the same equation applies to trails. In many remote areas the local flora and fauna that trails traverse, the terrain and topography, climate, local economies and infrastructure, including water facilities and sanitation, can’t support large groups of people riding through them. Thus, mountain bike tours are characterised by small groups of people, accompanied by riding guides, mobile base camps, 4WD support, full emergency/communications back up; minimal to no other vehicle traffic using the route.

Tour Verses Expedition
A tour is an organized ride that guarantees (99.9%) that you will reach the destination outlined in your tour program each day. You might have to change routes, mode of transport, and/or the program, but reaching it is possible.

Expeditions are a bit like life: no guarantees. Due to weather conditions, terrain conditions, route redirections it might not be possible to reach a particular destination on the designated day. While a particular itinerary cannot be guaranteed under expedition circumstances - safety can. Expedition logistics require detailed alternative itinerary for every aspect of the route. Which often means twice as many support personnel than riders! Are expeditions worth it, absolutely! They offer people opportunities for riding adventures they would not normally have; they offer Bike Beyond opportunities to support riders in ways that allow us to challenge ourselves, learn, and excel; they offer everyone on the expedition opportunities to share the beauty, mysteries, and secrets of an otherwise inaccessible environment with minimum impact.
